Shipmates, here's the info we've been waiting for --

A celebration of the late CAPT Pete Stark's life will take place at 1300 HRS on SAT 11 NOV 2017, at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 2575 Garth Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22901, with a reception to follow.

As I've already posted to a couple of our JAF facebook pages....
*** "I know this conflicts with our crew reunion on the 50th anniversary of USS Julius A. Furer commissioning this coming Veterans Day weekend; however, I'm hoping that in lieu of sightseeing through Norfolk we can instead organize a contingent of reunion attendees who want to attend the memorial service, and rent a large van or small bus to carry us back and forth in time to be in Charlottesville from 1300-1500, and back in Norfolk for the reunion banquet that evening."

I think that perhaps the failure of people to sign up for the boat & bus tours that Popeye organized, BEFORE we heard about the Captain's passing, was divine providence paving the way for us to instead hit the road for Charlottesville in lieu of seeing Norfolk that Sat. afternoon.

Best Regards,
Steve MCLaughlin

From Popeye, today October 24: ( this was posted on F.B.)

A couple of things shipmates:

1.) I have the t-shirts in and they turned out good. I am at the hospital now as my dad had a leg taken off today so I will try to post a picture when I get home. Cost will be $25.

2.) Everyone will need to pay their $20 association dues to Cliff at the reunion.

3.) We are also going to charge a $20 administration fee. This will cover the cost of the name tags, beer, booze, soda and snacks. I have talked this over with Cliff Smith and we think this is quite fair.

4.) Lastly, who would be interested in renting transportation to attend Captain Starks celebration of life on Saturday? Captain Stark kind of became all of our skipper even though some of us never served under him. Out of all the skippers to serve on the JAF he was the only one to attend reunions after the first one. So please let me know if you think we should go as a group. This will increase the cost of the reunion by a small amount.
